Concrete Hoops thoroughly enjoyed the company´s third expansion of its international endeavours In April of 2009 when they had the privilege to visit Nairobi Kenya (in east Africa) for a week long venture which included a 4 day program in partnership with Safe Spaces - Nairobi.

A special thanks goes out to Nish, Indishu, Julian, The ladies from Botswana, Tiff, all the girls, and Sam (for the video game idea).

With a total of 200 female participants from ages 5-25 over the 4 days of events, Concrete Hoops was able to witness and build upon the skills of many of Nairobi´s aspiring ballers. The connections made in Nairobi have created a greater understanding of perseverance and family through eye witness accounts of poverty and personal hardships that face many of the program participants. The generosity and love extended to us (as visitors) was world class and we look forward to the opportunity to do it all again soon.

Concrete Hoops was able to meet with local organizers to discuss relevant issues facing the community and to strategize how to increase involvement in physical activity and raise awareness of social issues and how to find a solution using the principles of sport.

On one of our first days in Nairobi we got the chance to walk through "Malisaba" (a slum the size of East York). We went to several homes of the Safe Spaces participants and talked to parents about life in the slums, current political issues, and the challenges they face living in and raising their family in such conditions.

Big Ups to the Nairobi Girls Club Team
Concrete Hoops had a  chance to work with the girls to help implement offensive and defensive strategies, sets, and plays. The girls have a lot of talent and are now a bit better equipped to take on all challengers, even the boys!

In keeping with philosophies and objectives of the organization, Concrete Hoops has made connections and built relationships with the local community organizations and leaders to provide a unique and exciting basketball experience for the youth of Nairobi.
